Counseling p. 50 -University of Mississippi Medical Center 2007-2008 BULLETIN
Academic, personal, and career counseling are available for medical students from faculty advisors, associate deans, assistant deans, the Academic Counseling Service, the Student Health Services, an extramural student mental health service, and from other appropriate professionals at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Counseling Services p. 14 - University of Mississippi Medical Center 2007-2008 BULLETIN. The Medical Center sponsors confidential mental health counseling service administered off campus.  This service is available to all Medical Center students.  There is no charge for the initial appointment and nominal charges for additional appointments.  Deans and/or their designees and other professional staff also are available to students for counseling services throughout the student's career.

Participation in the educational program of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine is limited to highly qualified and motivated individuals who seek the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors required for physicians to provide competent and compassionate care to a culturally diverse patient population.  Students are expected to attend and participate in medical education opportunities.  Student evaluation may be partially based upon participation, if so stated, in the course syllabus and approved by the Curriculum Committee.

The Drug Free Schools and Communities Act (PL101-226) requires that students and employees avoid the illicit use of drugs and the abuse of alcohol.  The University of Mississippi Medical Center has adopted and implemented a program to prevent the illicit use of drugs and abuse of alcohol by students and employees.  The publication, Policies For A Drug Free Campus, is available from the Registrar's Office, the Public Affairs Office, and Student Affairs Offices in each of the schools.
